The Winged Ones chap. 7whoa, whoa, wait! WHAT!?
i gasped. "Emma!"
"DOVE! Listen, ill explain later, come on! We've gotta get home!" that was all she left me with. We walked the rest of the way, but we didnt say a word to eachother. But she was right, we had to get home. She had a bloody nose, and mouth. Her eye was swolen too. I didnt look like anything had happened to me. But my arms hurt from that guy holding me back. I knew i wouldn't bruise though, im impervious to pain. But, doesn't that she is too?
At first, Emma's mom didnt see us, but just as we were about to walk up the stairs, she stopped us.
"Hold it right there, turn around!" she said, in a stonger, firmer voice than my dad when Monday night football is on.
"OH MY GOODNESS! What happened!? were you two fighting?!" she asked, seeming furious.
"No mom." Emma said, roling her eyes. "It was Kristi. She came and started bad mouthing us, so Dove Fought her for me." She explained.
"well, that hardly looks like what happened!"
"Heres what happened
The Winged Ones chap. 6Today was Saturday and i was going to Emma's house, not sure how it would turn out. She lived four doors down from me, in a big light yellow house. I walked up to the front door, which was almost completely made of glass, pretty, but dangerous.
Almost immediately after i rang the doorbell, Emma's mom came to the door to greet me with a huge smile on her face.
"hello dear, its been such a long time! How are you?" she asked, sounding surprised that Emma had someone over.
"im good. and you?"i said trying not to sound amused by her expression.
"good, good. better now that i know Emma has at least one real friend left!"
what did she mean? Now Emma doesnt have any friends? This is getting to be the boo-hoo school.
"well, you can go right up, shes in her room." she said turning towards the staircase.
"ok, thank you."
climbing up the stairs brought back memories of our younger days when we were really close. I must say, i kind of miss it.
"Emma, can i come in?" i called facing the
The Winged Ones chap. 5"MOM, MOM!!" i called.
"We had the best time! I figured out how to fly and it was really fun!" She smiled at the excited tone in my voice.
"i knew you would. You remind me of me when i first learned."
"really? Who taught you?"
"Ava, just like you. Shes been the head of our kind for longer than you think."
"longer than i can count. She taught my father, and his father, and many, many more."
how could that be? "I thought you said that we die like humans?" i asked, obviously confused my her self-contradicting statement.
"We do. The head winged one is given the gift of immortality at birth by the former head. Which, since he or she doesn't die, retires after one thousand centuries." She explained.
"how do they choose who will be the next head?"
"They dont. Only the head winged one has bright red wings. That means they are true and loyal to heart, proving that they will be kind, wise, and honest through their years as head. Plus, there is only one
The Winged Ones chap. 4I then talked to Ava a bit to get to know her better. And she me. But i still wasn't all that trusting of her yet. that would have to wait until our first session. Which was tomarrow.
The whole school day i was unfocused. I ended up getting yelled at by three of my teachers. I just want to get this over with.
I walked up to my front door, knowing what was inside, and for a quick moment, thought about running, but i didn't.
"Ava? Are you here?" I called not knowing where she could be. Then i voice came from behind me, so quiet i could barely hear it, but i did.
"im right here." Ava said, making me almost wet myself.
"D'OH, GOSH! jeez! dont do that!" i screamed.
"sorry, but if your going to be great, your going to have to be alert from all around." she plainly stated.
"well, don't teach me like that." i huffed, catching my breath.
"come on, we're wasting time." she summoned, turning away. towards her Jeep. My mind cringed at the fact of ge
The Winged Ones chap.3 Her story didn't make sense. She should be dead, how was she not harmed at all?
"mom, tell me the truth."
"That is the truth. Actually, it should be on the news right about now."she said, while grabbing the remote to the TV.
"No, mom. I mean why aren't you hurt?"
"honey, we're impervious to injury. We can't get hurt. You feel pain, but it doesnt scar you."
That relieved me a bit because i could've sworn i sprained my ankle from that landing.
"well honey, you better get to bed, i want you rested for training. Which starts immediately after school, so come right home."she told me, scooting me towards the door.
"alright mom, see you tomarrow, night!"I called over my shoulder. I was all worry free, just about to fall asleep when i realized i had to hand in my final
Thw Winged Ones chap.2 All i did was run. To the neighbors, to look for Jay, towards the hospital. Then it hit me. How am i going to get there? The hospital was twenty minutes away---in a car! Man i wish i could drive! Then i wished as hard as i could. And i could feel something happening. I closed my eyes thinking that maybe when i opened them i would be there.
I waited a few extra seconds to make sure i got there. Then i looked to find that i was high in the sky, soaring with my wings out. I'm flying? What if someone sees me!? I guess that must have unfocused me, because i started violently plummeting towards the ground! To that i started flailing. Which probably isn't the best choice. So i closed my eyes again and focused as best i could, and i saved myself.
All i thought was, Let me just get there, i'll deal with this later. So thats what i did. I manag
